Your plan for finding a table at Hooters is hilarious!! I love that idea. Way to use your kids for bait! And don't make too much fun of those women with dogs in their purses because I am one of them. I love your blog.

Judi had this to say...

I just love your sense of humor! This was an awesome story! I'm a single parent too and can all to well appreciate the kids chiming in to help out with a potential date once in a while. Keep up the great work! You're one heck of a dad!

Yes, your site was great, but what do YOU look like? You must get a ton of women responding, I mean, after all, who could possibly resist your wit and your fatherly charm? It was truly great. And the science behind the hooters visits, that was great. On that note, the hooters gal didn't work out? (you said you got a number....)

...After reading your site I can say that though I may despise Hooters your stories were very fun, and I enjoyed getting a feel of what a good parent you must be.

That's Too Much Blood For Just A Buck....

As a parent the general rule is you know your kids are knee deep in trouble when your house gets so still you can hear the air.  The quiet in your home feels like being caught in the eye of a hurricane.  The clouds are clear and the sun is shining, but the animals are gone and the silence is so eerie you instinctually know the worse has yet to come.

In our home the moment my boys go silent is the moment this single dad knows the current goings on are no longer Kosher.  Last night was no exception.  As I was doing my best to concentrate on the Yankees game (very excitedly so - the Yanks were up 7 -3) my house grew still causing my senses to perk up.  In a pre-emptive strike to quell the impending doom I got up off the couch and began my walk down the hall, fearing what I might find.  As I got near the bathroom I noticed the door was shut tight and I could the voices of all three of my boys inside….

“Dude, that tooth is way loose.”

“Yeah, J we can get it out.  No sweat.”

“You guys can get it?”  The nervousness in my youngest son’s voice was very apparent.

“Absolutely little man, we can get it.”

“It won’t hurt?”  His apprehension was starting to make his voice crack.

“No way man.”

“Yeah J, no way. It will happen quick.”

At this point I decided what was about to happen was definitely going to hurt and my little guy was going to bear the entire brunt of that pain.  Dad needed to intervene……I grabbed the knob of the bathroom door and yanked it open.

My youngest son let out a terrifying scream and fell to the floor.  Blood began to pour from his mouth and my other two boys just stood there, paralyzed by fear each of them staring at me.

“What the hell is going on?”  I asked.  I quickly knelt down and picked up my son.  A lump of tears, my son was crying hysterically and blood was still streaming out of his mouth.

The other boys continued to stand in silence.  The fear on their faces was enough to tell me the events leading up to what had happened in the bathroom were in now way rDad approved.

My youngest son wiped the tears from his face and stuck his fingers in his mouth, “It worked Dad!”

“What worked?”  I asked.

“The string!”  He said.

I looked immediately looked at the floor and there at my feet was a small tooth tied to an extremely long piece of dental floss which was anchored to the door.  In my haste to save my son from his brother's diabolical plans I had accidentally assisted the two older boys in achieving their end result....way to go Dad.

As I stood there shaking my head my son looked at me and said, “Thanks Dad.”

The older boys quickly exited the bathroom and went straight to their bedrooms.

"What in the world were you thinking?  That tooth was no where near ready to come out."  I said.

jaxsontooth.jpgHe replied very matter of factly, "I know."

"Then why did you force it?" I asked.

"Because I only have four bucks and we are going to Target tomorrow."

"And?"  I asked.

"And the boys said I need another dollar to buy the Tech Deck I want."  Even with the blood still marking his chin my little guy's face was filled with accomplishment and pride.

"Dude, that is a ton of blood for just one buck." I responded.

"So maybe the tooth fairy will give me five bucks then."  He said.

"In this case I think the Tooth Fairy will gladly provide additional funds for pain and suffering."  I said.

This is my life.

This is rDads life.

I hope you don't mind my incessant need to put requests in...I promise, once everything is running just the way I like it, I'll back off. I have another suggestion for you or your wonderful website designer. Is it possible to have a sidebar that says when there is a new comment on an old post. I love reading people's comments or hearing what you have to say but don't have the time to fiddle through the site.

Wow! Isn't it amazing what kids think of??? I'd never thought or heard of this until one of our foster kids kept pulling out her teeth for the money. I told her that the tooth fairy could not travel the globe in a day like Santa and she has to schedule her trips according to when she knows teeth are supposed to fall out and would show up accordingly (what a grouchy foster mom, eh?!) smilies/smiley.gif

BTW Your son is so cute!

I have had to threaten my boys with the extremes in punishment to keep them from pulling out their own teeth...I have even found my boys in the garage with pliars doing their best to yank out each other's teeth for money. That whole tooth fairy thing is utter insanity. I know your pain D. Thanks for the comment.

Supreme Ruler of the Universe (at least as far as my kids go)

Once my oldest daughter found out she received money for teeth, she was yanking them every chance she got. I was afraid she'd try to sell a kidney or something.
